United by an enthusiasm for chunky beats, instrumental noodling, and Manhattans on the rocks, the_front and DJ Still Life have been making music together for seven years. Though the sterile confines of a UCSD dorm room served as the early backdrop for their sonic speculation, an association with other like-minded loud-mouthed student artists led to a series of spontaneous late night revelries held on the loading docks of the University's music building. Like so many creative collegiate endeavors, the parties weren't long for this world, but DJ Still Life and the_front continue their musical adventures. They currently bang out their beats from one house or another in uptown San Diego.
Primary musical influences are hip hop heroes and the indie rock and rough break-heavy sound scape of their surrounding city. Their music can be heard on an upcoming series of 7-inch releases, on an upcoming VH-1 show and on the various remixes they have done for other artists, including the Bee Sighed and The Broken Tribe Collective. In addition, the_front plays bass in the math rock assault trio Burn Report and DJ Still Life can be seen putting the needle to the groove at fine drinking establishments in San Diego and beyond.
